Robotic Pool Cleaners FAQs

What are the benefits of Robotic Pool Cleaners?
  • Robotic Pool Cleaners are completely independent from your pump and filter system.
  • Pool Robots create efficient cleaning patterns and clean most pools under 1 hour.
  • Remote control, programmable modes and automatic shut-off functions.
  • Robotic Pool Cleaners vacuum and scrub all surfaces - floor, walls, stairs and tile line.
How does a Robotic Pool Cleaner work?

Robotic pool cleaners have low voltage motors to move the cleaner, and provide the suction for vacuuming. They typically include a floating power cable, connected to the poolside power supply box. They can be programmed for custom cleaning cycles and different cleaning modes, like waterline scrubbing. During operation, the wheels or roller tubes turn to drive the cleaner in any direction, while roller brushes softly scrub the surfaces. Vacuum suction draws dirt and debris through the filter, where it traps large leaves, silt and dust, for easy removal.

How to Install a Robotic Pool Cleaner

The best part about robotic pool cleaners is that they are plug 'n play right out of the box! Nothing to assemble, just place the pool robot in the water, and plug the floating low-voltage power cord into the power supply. Then plug the power supply into any 110V outlet and turn on your robot!

Whether you need an Above Ground Robotic Pool Cleaner or In-Ground Robotic Pool Cleaner, we have you covered at Leslie’s Pool Supplies!

What are the differences between robotic, pressure and suction side pool cleaners?

  • Pressure Cleaners: Use water pressure from a booster pump to move and collect debris into a bag.
  • Robotic Cleaners: Self-contained units powered by electricity, offering advanced cleaning patterns and energy efficiency.
  • Suction Side Cleaners: Attach to the pool’s skimmer or suction line, using the pool pump’s suction to vacuum debris.
Take a deep dive into the difference between each pool cleaner type here: How to Choose the Right Automatic Pool Cleaner Type.

What are the benefits of robotic pool cleaners compared to pressure or suction cleaners?

  • Energy efficiency – runs on low voltage, not tied to pool pump
  • Superior cleaning – most robotic cleaners scrub walls, floors, and waterlines
  • Ease of use – plug-and-play setup, no booster pump required
  • Advanced features – programmable cycles, remote control, app connectivity

Do robotic pool cleaners require maintenance?

Minimal maintenance is required for robotic pool cleaners:

  • Empty and rinse the filter basket after each use
  • Inspect brushes and tracks for wear
  • Store in a shaded, dry area when not in use
